3299 Trouble in Portland? Are you having difficulty clearing household goods / personal effects belonging to an importer’s spouse or child? Please let us know. A few members of the association have run into a hiccups when attempting to clear these types of goods [eg. the importer’s child’s toys, the importer’s wife’s clothing, etc] via the 3299 form, and we’d like to know if there are others in the CRCBFA community that are experiencing the same issues. The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a hot topic right now. With intense rhetoric dominating the conversations for and against the trade deal, read Congressman Earl Blumenaur’s Trade FAQ to build up your knowledge of what will and will not happen if TPP passes.

 

The BNSF Railway’s reduction of free time, increase of storage charges, and inclusion of Sunday as chargeable time are significant stressors that decrease the feasibility of recovering containers without accruing additional charges. Peter Friedmann of the Pacific Coast Council has taken on this issue, first going to the Federal Maritime Commission to express the trade community’s grievances with the new BNSF ruling. The Port Latest – At the May CRCBFA General Meeting, ILWU representatives Mike Stanton, ILWU Local 8 President, and Dane Jones, ILWU Local 40 Secretary-Treasurer, requested that the lawsuit brought against the ILWU by ICTSI be dropped to improve negotiating potential between the ILWU, ICTSI, and Port of Portland. Currently, the National Labor Relations Board ruling on that case is still pending.
